Within the Limitations

The compact disk was invented in 1979 and before streaming, it was the most sophisticated way to consume and store music. They defined our culture and helped us find our sense of identity. By 2007, an estimated 200 billion music CDs had been sold, (this excludes the DVDs, console games and computer software which also utilised this technology). Our material culture leaves a legacy; CDs can not be recycled.
Drawing on the tactile nature of the CD case, Within The Limitations is a project created by Gregory Daines in collaboration with Ashford Visual Artists, to reuse several hundred CD cases following a series of art installations by Lorrain Mailer.
